Private Tuition and its Impact on Learning among Secondary School Students: A Systematic Review

Abstract

In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the number of school-aged children attending private tuition. This learning space outside school although supplementary is gaining momentum for achieving greater academic success. To gain deeper insight into the relationship between private supplementary tuition and academic achievement this study comprises a systematic review of different literature available on research websites of the last ten years. A systematic search of different databases was conducted to finalize twelve articles from 814 articles. Only quantitative nature articles focused on secondary school students were exclusively chosen for this research. The study revealed that private tuition positively influences the learning outcomes of secondary school students. In addition, the study also focused on the other socio-economic factors responsible for the positive learning impact of private tuition. The findings of this literature review will help the stakeholders of the education system such as parents, teachers, and students to understand if private tuition helps needy students and will present a few factors responsible for private tuition.
