Abstract

This study was carried out with the basic objective to determine the status of parental support towards students with visual impairment. The descriptive research method was adopted with a quantitative approach. A total of 160 visually impaired students were selected by simple random sampling technique from Dr.Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University, Lucknow, and Jagadguru Rambhadracharya Divyanga University, Chitrakoot, UP as a sample of the study. A five-point rating scale was constructed. The validation of the scale was done by a group of experts. The computation of the reliability was done through a split-half method. z-standard scores were also computed for meaningful interpretation of raw scores. Concerning the analysis of the data, mean and standard deviation were computed and t-test was applied to test the null hypothesis. The findings revealed that none of the visually impaired students had extremely high parental support. Further, no significant difference was found based on gender. However, habit created a significant variation in the parental support in favor of urban visually impaired students as compared to rural visually impaired students.
