Abstract

The most important factor in education and teaching activities is the teacher. Teacher is the core element of imparting education to the learners. It is said that the strength of the school depends on the attitude of teachers. Student’s performance is affected by many factors and the first one is the attitude of the teacher. The purpose of this study is to determine the level of attitude of prospective teachers towards teaching profession. The study aims to investigate the attitudes of prospective teachers in relation to the different variables. This study was conducted on the prospective teachers from Kohima district, Nagaland. The data was collected using the ‘Teacher Attitude Inventory (TAI)’ developed and standardized by Dr. S.P. Ahluwalia. The tool was administered to 200 B.Ed trainees (135 female and 130 male). Based on data analysis of six dimensions and overall study, it can be concluded that majority of the prospective teachers in Kohima district have an average level of attitude towards teaching profession and its dimensions. The results also show that female and male have equal attitude towards teaching profession. Based on the findings, some recommendations were provided to enhance the level of attitude of prospective teachers towards teaching profession.
