Abstract

Feelings are suggested to play a key role in the leadership process in this research. Emotional intelligence, or the capacity to comprehend and control moods and emotions in oneself and others, is thought to contribute to effective leadership in businesses. The appraisal and expression of emotion, the use of emotion to assist cognitive processes and decision making, understanding about emotions, and emotion management are regarded as four important characteristics of emotional intelligence. Also, how emotional intelligence contributes to effective leadership by focusing on five essential elements of leadership effectiveness: developing collective goals and objectives; instilling in others an appreciation of the importance of work activities; generating and maintaining enthusiasm, confidence, optimism, cooperation, and trust; and encouraging flexibility in decision-making.
