Abstract

The purpose of this research paper was to examine the ‘Factors that hinder effective guidance and counseling services in Indian school context’. This research paper includes the definitions of guidance, counseling and guidance as a service. It also outlines the need for guidance and counseling services in schools and the problems related to the successful implementation in Indian school context. Research was consulted from various sources like university textbook, articles, and research papers. Based on the research findings, it was quite evident that the qualification of counsellors, availability of resources, gender of counsellors’, overburdening of work and responsibilities and the mindset of parents are the main concerns for improving the status of guidance and counseling services in India.
