Abstract

Political socialization plays a significant role in shaping students’ attitudes and behavior, particularly during their formative educational years. This study examines how various agents of political socialization—such as family, school, peer groups, media, and community—contribute to the development of political awareness, values, and behavioral patterns among students. The paper adopts an educational psychology perspective to understand how exposure to political ideas influences cognitive growth, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities. The study highlights that family serves as the primary source of early political orientation, while schools act as formal institutions that promote civic knowledge and democratic values. Peer interactions and media exposure further expand students’ political understanding, often influencing their opinions and participation in socio-political activities. The research emphasizes that effective political socialization fosters a sense of civic responsibility, tolerance, and active citizenship among students. However, the study also identifies key challenges, including biased information, media manipulation, and socio-economic disparities, which may hinder balanced political development. These factors can lead to misinformation or limited political awareness among students, affecting their attitudes and behavior negatively. The findings suggest that a well-structured educational environment, combined with responsible media exposure and supportive family influence, is essential for healthy political socialization. The paper concludes that promoting critical thinking, democratic engagement, and value-based education can significantly enhance students’ political understanding and behavior, ultimately contributing to the development of informed and responsible citizens in a democratic society.
