Abstract

Humans communicate with one another through language. Everyone communicates in their own unique way. Language allows us to communicate our emotions, thoughts, and ideas to one another. Language comes effortlessly to the vast majority of people. When a child is born into a family, he or she learns the language of that family. Language is the only thing that makes us human. Multilingual education essentially refers to "first language first" education, which indicates that education begins in the mother tongue and then progresses to other languages. In India, bilingual education is widely practiced. It's always been there, dating back to colonialism's heyday. The major languages of India are Hindi, Gujarati, Assamese, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, Telegu, Kashmiri, Urdu, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Sindhi, Nepali, and English (Apala Saha, 2018). So, in all, there are over 1500 mother tongues spoken in the country. In today's global environment, people who speak two or more languages have always had an advantage. The manner in which people talk, their dialect, and the medium in which they are taught all vary.4 Students from many regions study and converse in a variety of languages. A youngster may be able to speak a variety of languages but may not be able to read or write in them. Multilingual education also helps in the personality development of the students. There is a strong link between a person's multilingualism and his or her personality.10 speaking in several languages helps to develop a student's personality. Multilingual education provides a better understanding of different cultures and countries. It helps in cognitive, psychological, and personality development. According to several types of research, students who learn through multilingualism are highly enjoying a higher socioeconomic status which helps in the enhancement of their personality. This article emphasis on the importance of multilingual education in today's world. In addition, there is a link between multilingual education and student personality.
